ONLINE – Read Brave:
The Stars and the Blackness Between Them

Join the Minnesota Humanities Center and the East Side Freedom Library for an insightful conversation about “The Stars and the Blackness Between Them” with its author Junauda Petrus-Nasah.

Junauda will lead a fun and inspiring conversation about this year’s Saint Paul Read Brave primary book selection. Registration is free and required to receive the online access instructions. Participants may pick up a copy of the book at no charge in advance of this event. Register first, then email Casey DeMarais (casey@mnhum.org to arrange to pick up the book at either the Minnesota Humanities Center or the East Side Freedom Library. Quantities are limited.

Junauda Petrus-Nasah is a creative activist, writer, playwright, and multi-dimensional performance artist who is born on Dakota land, West-Indian descended, and African-sourced. Her work centers around Black wildness, -futurism, ancestral healing, sweetness, spectacle and shimmer.

In 2017, she began writing and directing, Sweetness of Wild, an episodic-poetic-film-series that centers an inter-generational cast of Black folks, navigating themes of Black Lives Matter, life after Prince, first-love and bike culture against the backdrop of Minneapolis. Her first book, the young adult novel, “The Stars and The Blackness Between Them,” received the 2020 Coretta Scott King Honor Book Award.
