DESCRIPTION:The We Are Water MN traveling exhibit examines water issues statewide and in local communities through personal stories\, histories\, and scientific information. It strengthens Minnesotans’ relationships with water\, exposes visitors to new perspectives\, and increases participation in water stewardship activities. \nHost Partner: Great River Arts \nAs the summer comes to a close and fall sets in\, join We Are Water MN at Great River Arts (GRA) in Little Fall\, where creativity meets community. GRA exists to enrich lives through the arts and become the art hub for the Morrison County area\, playing a significant role in sustaining the community’s artistic and economic vibrancy. From live theater and music performances to continuous visual art exhibits\, art classes for youth and adults\, and now the We Are Water MN exhibit\, come see how all of the wonderful things that happen when water and art meet! \nWe are especially excited that the exhibit will be in town during the annual and always highly anticipated Little Falls Arts and Crafts Fair\, September 12-13. SUMMARY:St. Paul - Learning from Place: Rondo Tour
DESCRIPTION:Learning from Place: Rondo Tour is a bus tour comprised of ten historic sites\, a walking tour of Rondo Plaza\, and a unique opportunity to be engaged in a service project with the Hallie Q. Brown Center. The bus and walking tour will be guided by Marvin Anderson a resident who is acknowledged as “the Godfather” of Rondo. This event begins and concludes at the historic Hallie Q. Brown Center with a presentation and tour led by Benny Roberts\, Executive Director. \nHistorically\, the Rondo Neighborhood has taken pride in its Black owned businesses\, churches\, schools\, and the significance of being of service to neighbors when in need. During the mid-1950s\, the construction of Interstate 94 began the devastation that divided the community physically and economically. This revitalization tour holds fast the passion of those who never gave up the vision of regaining the vibrancy and strength that once existed in Rondo. \nRegistration\nThis event is at capacity. SUMMARY:Duluth - Objects of War: A Storytelling Circle of Service\, Memory\, & Community
DESCRIPTION:The Minnesota Humanities Center invites you to join us for an engaging evening focused on conversation\, reflection\, and storytelling. For Objects of War\, participants are asked to bring an item connected to military service or the experience of war and conflict — which could be dog tags\, a service member’s good luck charm\, or a family heirloom — and share the story of this item during the evening. Moderated by trained facilitators\, the conversation will help participants understand why we hold on to certain objects\, and how these objects help us better understand the human impacts of war. Come prepared to share a story\, listen to others\, and enjoy a light meal together. \nThis program is part of MHC’s Many Fronts initiative\, which supports Humanities programming that explores the human impact of war and conflict\, its historical\, social\, and political underpinnings\, and the voices and narratives that help us to increase our understanding about one another and war. \nAs the Minnesota Humanities Center commemorates 250 years since the founding of the United States\, Objects of War invites us to reflect on the experiences of those whose lives have been shaped by military service\, war\, and conflict. Through personal objects and stories\, participants will consider how service and sacrifice are remembered across generations and how these experiences have shaped our communities and our shared history. \nObjects of War is presented in partnership with the St. Louis County Historical Society who for more than 100 years has preserved a collection of 14\,000 artifacts reflecting the vastness and cultural depth of our Northland servicemembers. \nRegistration\nThis event is free\, however registration is required. \nRegistration Questions: registrations@mnhum.org  \nRegister Now
