DESCRIPTION:The We Are Water MN traveling exhibit examines water issues statewide and in local communities through personal stories\, histories\, and scientific information. It strengthens Minnesotans’ relationships with water\, exposes visitors to new perspectives\, and increases participation in water stewardship activities. \nHost Partner: Great River Arts \nAs the summer comes to a close and fall sets in\, join We Are Water MN at Great River Arts (GRA) in Little Fall\, where creativity meets community. GRA exists to enrich lives through the arts and become the art hub for the Morrison County area\, playing a significant role in sustaining the community’s artistic and economic vibrancy. From live theater and music performances to continuous visual art exhibits\, art classes for youth and adults\, and now the We Are Water MN exhibit\, come see how all of the wonderful things that happen when water and art meet! \nWe are especially excited that the exhibit will be in town during the annual and always highly anticipated Little Falls Arts and Crafts Fair\, September 12-13. SUMMARY:North Mankato – Social Studies Standards Workshop Day 1
DESCRIPTION:This two-day workshop series (October 20 and November 10\, 2026) is designed to equip K–12 teachers and school leaders with the knowledge and tools needed to successfully implement the new social studies standards for the 2026–27 school year. Participants will engage in a guided exploration of the revised standards\, including analysis of major content shifts\, vertical alignment across grade levels\, and implications for curriculum planning.\n‍\nThroughout the workshop\, teams will connect the updated standards to the C3 Framework\, deepening their understanding of high-quality instructional practices and identifying necessary instructional shifts to support student learning. \nK-12 educators will receive 5.5 clock hours for completion of each sessions. \nRegistration\nRegistration for this event is managed by South Central Services Cooperative. SUMMARY:Ely – Iron Range: Minnesota Building America Film Screening with Pam Brunfelt
DESCRIPTION:Join the Minnesota Humanities Center for a special screening of the Emmy Award-winning documentary Iron Range: Minnesota Building America at the Ely’s Historic State Theater. \nMinnesota’s Iron Range has played an extraordinary role in shaping the state and the nation. Just 10 miles wide and 100 miles long\, this region supplied the iron ore\, labor\, and human stories that helped build modern America. \nThe documentary grew out of an immersive Minnesota Humanities Center education program led in part by Iron Range historian\, scholar\, and educator Pam Brunfelt. Offered over two years\, the weeklong program brought 80 teachers from across the country to the Range for intensive study and discussion of the region’s history\, its people\, and its contributions to American history. Teachers returned to their classrooms with new knowledge and resources for incorporating the story of the Iron Range into their American history curriculum. \nThat experience helped inspire Iron Range | Minnesota Building America\, produced by the Minnesota Humanities Center in partnership with Twin Cities Public Television. The film explores the people and forces that shaped the Range and considers the region’s enduring place in Minnesota and American history. \nFollowing the screening\, join us for a conversation with Pam Brunfelt\, who appears in the documentary.
