SUMMARY:St. Paul - Summer on the Lawn: "Black Panther" Movie Book Club
DESCRIPTION:The State Fair is over\, Labor Day has come and gone\, and homework is back. Summer’s end can be tough\, but MHC’s Summer on the Lawn series closes the season on a high note with a community conversation and outdoor screening of a modern movie classic! In partnership with TriLingua Cinema and SAGE GRAY\, Summer on the Lawn presents “Black Panther” movie book club. SAGE GRAY\, a noted scholar of Afrofuturist Design and developer of the Wakanda Syllabus\, will begin the evening with a community discussion about the impact of the “Black Panther” multiverse and its importance to history and contemporary culture. GRAY will then introduce a screening of “Black Panther\,” an epic tale about the struggles and triumphs of T’Challa\, King of Wakanda and the superhero Black Panther\, as he faces the dual challenges of archrival Killmonger\, a pretender to the Wakandan throne\, and the political difficulties of securing the safety and sovereignty of his country. \nThis film is rated PG-13 and runs for 134 minutes. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to consult Common Sense Media for more information on film content. \nShowtime begins right after sunset (approximately 7:20 p.m.). Light refreshments will be provided by TriLingua Cinema and MHC. Picnics\, lawn chairs\, and blankets are welcome. Note that the screening is in an open field with minimal shade. Please plan accordingly. Restrooms will be available for use at the Minnesota Humanities Event Center. In case of inclement weather\, the screening will be moved indoors to the Minnesota Humanities Event Center. \nAbout TriLingua Cinema\nTriLingua Cinema is a nonprofit traveling cinema with the mission of utilizing films to build community among the diverse residents of Saint Paul’s East Side. Their ultimate goal is to open a brick-and-mortar movie theater in Payne-Phalen or Dayton’s Bluff. \nThis event is part of MHC’s 2026 Summer on the Lawn series. \nRegistration\nThis event is free to attend. Registration is encouraged but required. \nRegistration Questions: registrations@mnhum.org \nRegister Now

SUMMARY:Duluth - Objects of War: A Storytelling Circle of Service\, Memory\, & Community
DESCRIPTION:The Minnesota Humanities Center invites you to join us for an engaging evening focused on conversation\, reflection\, and storytelling. For Objects of War\, participants are asked to bring an item connected to military service or the experience of war and conflict — which could be dog tags\, a service member’s good luck charm\, or a family heirloom — and share the story of this item during the evening. Moderated by trained facilitators\, the conversation will help participants understand why we hold on to certain objects\, and how these objects help us better understand the human impacts of war. Come prepared to share a story\, listen to others\, and enjoy a light meal together. \nThis program is part of MHC’s Many Fronts initiative\, which supports Humanities programming that explores the human impact of war and conflict\, its historical\, social\, and political underpinnings\, and the voices and narratives that help us to increase our understanding about one another and war. \nAs the Minnesota Humanities Center commemorates 250 years since the founding of the United States\, Objects of War invites us to reflect on the experiences of those whose lives have been shaped by military service\, war\, and conflict. Through personal objects and stories\, participants will consider how service and sacrifice are remembered across generations and how these experiences have shaped our communities and our shared history. \nObjects of War is presented in partnership with the St. Louis County Historical Society who for more than 100 years has preserved a collection of 14\,000 artifacts reflecting the vastness and cultural depth of our Northland servicemembers. \nRegistration\nThis event is free\, however registration is required. \nRegistration Questions: registrations@mnhum.org \nRegister Now

SUMMARY:Edina - Objects of War: A Storytelling Circle of Service\, Memory\, & Community
DESCRIPTION:The Minnesota Humanities Center invites you to an afternoon of conversation\, reflection\, and storytelling. As part of Many Fronts | Veterans & Community Voices\, Objects of War brings together Veterans\, military families\, and community members to share personal stories that deepen understanding of military service\, sacrifice\, resilience\, and the lasting human impacts of war. \nParticipants are invited to bring an object connected to military service or the experience of war – a set of dog tags\, a medal\, a photograph\, a letter\, a keepsake\, or another meaningful item – and share the story behind it. \nGuided by trained Story Circle facilitators\, participants will listen\, reflect\, and discover how personal stories preserve community memory\, foster empathy\, and create meaningful connections across generations and experiences. Whether you served\, supported someone who served\, or carry a family story shaped by military service\, your perspective is welcome. \nOctober is Veterans’ Voices Month in Minnesota\, and MHC is focused on honoring service\, lived experiences\, and the preservation of Veterans’ personal stories through reflection and intergenerational conversations. This Objects of War story circle event will emphasize the people who are gathered with their meaningful artifacts\, and the stories they will share. As we recognize the 250th anniversary of America\, MHC – along with humanities councils across the nation – is hosting programs and events like these story circle experiences to empower Americans to take steps toward a more perfect union. \nRegistration\nThis event is free\, however registration with Edina Parks & Recreation is required. \nRegistration Questions: registrations@mnhum.org \nRegister Now
