Sketches of Minnesota

A community-inspired civic improv comedy tour

Connecting through Comedy and Community

The Minnesota Humanities Center and Danger Boat Productions launched Sketches of Minnesota during the summer of 2024 to encourage active listening, facilitate real conversation, and to provide communities throughout the state with a night of fun. This unique initiative allows attendees space for an evening of listening to and talking with their neighbors, along with a free meal and healthy dose of improvisational comedy, about the concerns, hopes, and dreams of their community.

What do MHC and Danger Boat hope to accomplish with Sketches of Minnesota?

The goal has always been to build and strengthen the sense of community in Minnesota. The Sketches of Minnesota team travels to cities and towns across the state to produce a truly unique  event that brings residents together for meaningful discussions, shared insights, and the discovery that we have more similarities than we have differences.

While comedic, Sketches of Minnesota never “punches down”. We don’t make fun of anyone, or where you live, and you won’t be brought up on stage or be the focus of a joke by one of the improv comedians. The show fosters understanding within and across communities, highlights the threads that make up the fabric of Minnesota, and showcases  what residents cherish most about their corner of the state.

And at the end of the day, it’s a fun night out in your town with dinner and a show!
