What We Do
We create a stronger Minnesota by increasing understanding of the beauty, wisdom, and stories of its people.

The Work of the Minnesota Humanities Center
Through the power of the humanities, the Minnesota Humanities Center preserves heritage, educates with authenticity, and inspires change.
We curate and co-create a wide variety of humanities programs, events, exhibitions, and stories to share throughout the state, and we administer and manage competitive and non-competitive grant programs that allow Minnesotans to enjoy our rich cultural diversity.
Our Minnesota Humanities Event Center offers daytime and overnight spaces for people to learn, meet with colleagues, enjoy a wonderful meal, and experience a full-service retreat environment.

Grantmaking
In partnership with the Minnesota Legislature and through the Arts and Culture Heritage Fund, we manage and administer competitive and non-competitive grants that support individuals, nonprofits, schools, museums, and other organizations across the state who leverage the humanities to deepen connection and understanding in their communities.
Learn MoreProgramming
Along with partners across the state, we curate and co-create a wide variety of humanities programs, events, exhibitions, and stories to share with Minnesotans. Most of our events are free and open to the public, while other offerings are created for specific audiences, like educators, corporate teams, and youth. Community opportunity, societal need, and partner collaboration inspire the specific topic and how the offering is delivered. That’s the beauty, and the power, of the humanities. We can explore, learn, connect, grow, and spark change in so many ways.
Our program offerings are rich and varied, not falling into rigid categories. Yet there are programming areas we dedicate intentional focus – civic renewal, K-12 education, immersive experiences, and public programming. Learn why those areas are of importance to our mission today and explore opportunities to get involved below.
